To transcribe a video to text for free on Windows, with no sign-up and without uploading it: install AppGrabbit, open Download › Transcribe with AI, drop the video (mp4, mkv, mov, webm…) or paste the link if it is on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, and click Transcribe. The app pulls the audio out and transcribes it with AI on your computer: a clean .txt with the prompt for your AI on top and an .srt with timing. No length cap. 1 credit · 5 free a month
Why “video to text online free no sign-up” does not really exist
Uploading a video is heavy: a one-hour mp4 is 1 or 2 GB, and the websites know it. That is why almost all of them ask for an account past a certain size, cap you at 10 or 30 minutes and keep the file on their servers. An app on your PC has nothing to upload: it pulls the audio track out of the video, which weighs 20 times less, and transcribes it right there.
How AppGrabbit does it
From a file, the app reads it where it is and extracts only the audio with FFmpeg; from a TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X or Twitch link, it downloads only the audio. Then it transcribes it with Whisper (whisper.cpp) on your PC, on your NVIDIA card if you have one or on the CPU if not, skipping music and silences. Out come the .txt with the prompt on top (summarize, key ideas, study questions) and the .srt with timing, in the Transcripts folder and in the Library.
How long it takes, in numbers
- With an NVIDIA card — about 30 seconds per 10 minutes of video.
- CPU only — about 2 minutes per 10 with the Fast model; Accurate about 6 and makes fewer mistakes.
- Size does not matter — a 5 GB 4K video takes as long as a 300 MB one: only the audio is read.
- Once — the engine and the model download the first time; the app states the size and the time before.

Step by step
- 1Install AppGrabbit for Windows — Download the free installer (everything included). Windows will say it protected your PC because the installer is not code-signed: click More info, then Run anyway.
- 2Open Download › Transcribe with AI — Drop the video (mp4, mkv, mov, webm, avi…) onto “Audio or video from your PC”, or paste the link if it is on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Twitch or YouTube.
- 3Let it pull the audio out — The app does not upload the video or convert it whole: it only extracts the audio track with FFmpeg and transcribes it on your PC. The first time, the app gets the AI engine ready on your PC (a one-time download) and carries on by itself.
- 4Pick the prompt and click Transcribe — Summarize, Key ideas, Study questions or no prompt: it goes at the top of the .txt so you can paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. The first time, the app gets the AI engine ready on your PC (a one-time download) and carries on by itself.
- 5Open the .txt and the .srt — They land in the Transcripts folder inside your downloads folder, and in the Library. The .txt pastes into Word or into your AI; the .srt carries the minute of every sentence.
Frequently asked questions
mp4, mkv, mov, webm, avi, m4v, 3gp and more: whatever a phone, a camera or an editor produces. If FFmpeg opens it, it transcribes.
Yes, with the link: the app downloads only the audio and transcribes it. YouTube has its own guide because there the app can also take the captions the video already has.
No. “Free” websites cut off at 10 or 30 minutes and ask for an account past a certain size; here the limit is your PC. A 3 GB conference video transcribes the same.
The .srt you get here has per-sentence timing and can be uploaded to YouTube. If you want word-by-word subtitles burned into the video, that is the Subtitles with AI tab.
The engine detects the spoken language. If languages mix, pin one (Spanish, English, Portuguese and more) before transcribing. It comes out in the language of the audio, not translated.
1 credit per transcript. Free comes with 5 credits a month and, at 0, you can claim 1 more every 48 hours. The 7-day pass (USD 3.99, no renewal) removes credits for a week; Pro removes them for good at USD 8.99 a month. No minute cap and no file-length cap.
Nothing. The audio is transcribed by Whisper (whisper.cpp) running on your computer, on your NVIDIA card if you have one or on the CPU if not. You can unplug the internet and it keeps working. Only the first time does it download the engine and the model.
