AppGrabbit: a voice note turned into a portrait video, with a title, bars that follow the voice and subtitles

How to get the voice note from WhatsApp onto your PC

In WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp for Windows, hover over the voice note: a little arrow appears; click it and choose Download. An .ogg file (sometimes .opus) lands in your downloads folder. From the phone, press and hold the note, Share, and email it to yourself or save it to Drive. If it comes from an iPhone it will be .m4a. Any of those goes in as is: nothing to convert first.

From voice note to portrait video: what you get

A 1080×1920 video with a slowly drifting background (Night, Paper or Sky), the title at the top (who speaks, what about, up to 70 characters) with the length below it, 40 mirrored bars that truly follow the voice, and the subtitles in the Center style: three or four large words mid-screen, the spoken one in yellow. It is the format people watch muted on the bus. If it goes to the feed, Square 1:1 comes out 1080×1080.

What it is for, with examples

  • A testimonial — a happy customer's voice note becomes a Story with their name on top and their words on screen.
  • An explanation — the recipe, the directions, the notice: as a video people forward it and keep it; a voice note gets lost in the chat.
  • A keepsake — the audio of someone dear, with their name, to share as a video in the family group.
  • A message for a large group — as a status or Story it reaches everyone; a voice note only reaches whoever opens it.

Step by step

  • 1
Install AppGrabbit for Windows — Download the free installer (everything included). Windows will say it protected your PC because the installer is not code-signed: click More info, then Run anyway.
  • 2
Get the voice note from WhatsApp onto your PC — In WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp for Windows: hover over the voice note, click the little arrow and “Download”. You get an .ogg or .opus. From the phone: press and hold the note, Share, and email it to yourself or save it to Drive.
  • 3
Drop it onto Download › Subtitles with AI — The app reads the .ogg, .opus or .m4a where it is. A recording from Windows Voice Recorder or an iPhone voice memo works too.
  • 4
Click “Get subtitles” (1 credit) — The app transcribes the audio on your PC, word by word, and leaves .srt, .vtt and .txt in the Subtitles folder. The first time it gets the AI engine ready, once. With no speech, it tells you and gives the credit back.
  • 5
Pick Portrait, a background and the title — Portrait 9:16 is the one for statuses, Stories and Reels: 1080×1920. Square 1:1 if it goes to the feed. Type the title at the top: who is speaking or what it is about. All on a real preview, free.
  • 6
Click “Make the video” (Pro or the 7-day pass) — Out comes an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio: background, title, bars that follow the voice and subtitles with the spoken word lit up. It sits in the Subtitles folder and in the Library.
  • 7
Share it — As a WhatsApp status, a Story, a Reel or a TikTok: 1080×1920 in H.264 with AAC. And as a video on WhatsApp itself: a voice note cannot be forwarded everywhere, a video can.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a WhatsApp voice note to my computer?

WhatsApp Web or the Windows app: a little arrow shows on the voice note when you hover; “Download”. You get an .ogg or .opus that the app reads as is. From the phone, share it to your email or to Drive. There is a guide just for that, linked below.

Does an iPhone voice memo or a Telegram voice message work?

Yes: the iPhone saves .m4a, Telegram .ogg; both go in. So does a recording from Windows Voice Recorder (.m4a).

Why would I want a voice note as a video?

Because a voice note cannot go on a status, a Story or TikTok, and a video can. A customer testimonial, a recipe explained, a message for a group, the audio of a short interview: they become postable, with the text on screen for whoever watches muted.

Does it work with music-only audio?

No. The feature needs speech: it transcribes what is said and shows it as subtitles. With music only the app warns you and gives the credit back. For music you need an editor, not this.

Can I add my photo, my logo or a background picture?

Not today. You choose among three backgrounds (Night, Paper and Sky), a title and the format; bars and subtitles come by themselves. That is on purpose, so it is ready in a minute. If you need your own image, do it in an editor with the .srt you get here.

What is free and what is Pro?

Getting the subtitles (.srt, .vtt and .txt) costs 1 credit; Free comes with 5 a month. Previewing with format, background and title is free. “Make the video” is for Pro (USD 8.99 a month) or the 7-day pass (USD 3.99, no renewal). There is never a watermark.

Is nothing really uploaded?

Nothing. The audio is transcribed by Whisper (whisper.cpp) on your computer and FFmpeg builds the video right there. With a file of yours it even works offline, after the first time.
